impending shakeup on the aria albums chart

The ARIA Albums Chart is set for a shakeup this week as several high-profile artists drop new records. While Ed Sheeran’s six-week reign at the top of the chart is a commendable feat, debuts from Kendrick Lamar, Mark Vincent and John Mayer are all tussling for that exclusive crown.

Lamar, in particular, has a good shot at usurping Sheeran’s throne. According to early figures, DAMN. will enter the chart in one of the Top 3 positions, and if his past releases are anything to go by, Lamar is destined to nab his second #1 ARIA album badge alongside 2015’s To Pimp A Butterfly.

Billboard reports that Lamar will score his third US #1 with the new album.

Sydney tenor Mark Vincent will return to the Top 5 for the first time since 2011 with new cut A Tribute To Mario Lanza. John Mayer’s first album release in five years will also see a high debut, falling in either fourth or fifth place on the chart.

Last week’s ARIA Albums Chart also saw a slate of debuts overhaul the Top 5. Tina Arena’s Greatest Hits & Interpretations, The Smith Street Band’s More Scared Of You Than You Are Of Me (an indie release that debuted at an impressive #3), and the highly-anticipated Memories...Do Not Open by The Chainsmokers pushed Adele’s 25, as well the Moana and Beauty And The Beast soundtracks, out of the Top 5.

But the chart’s fleeting nature means the current Top 5 will too be dealt a similar fate to their predecessors as this week’s new albums remorselessly shoulder their way to the upper tiers of the chart.
