2015 nt song of the year award finalists

PRESS RELEASE:

Forty five songs that represent the incredible variety and quality of the Northern Territory music scene have been identified as the finalists in the 2015 NT Song of the Year Awards.

The judging process was extremely difficult with 300 tracks entered from artists from all corners of the Territory including acts from Tiwi Islands, Tennant Creek, Milingimbi, Arnhem Land, Alice Springs, Katherine and Darwin. More than 40 judges, from local and national music industry, have whittled it down to the top five tracks in the categories of Rock, Pop, Folk, Electronic/Dance, Heavy, Country, Urban/Hip-Hop, Blues and Roots, and School-Aged.

MusicNT Executive Director Mark Smith said it was exciting to see finalists from across the Territory and from different backgrounds. "There is incredible variety in the finalists this year. From established and much-loved acts such as B2M, East Journey, Broadwing, Green Stone Garden and Miazma to new faces just staring to make a name for themselves. Music in the Territory has a rich diversity and the NT Song of the Year Awards continue to recognise the talent and achievements of NT songwriters."

The NT Song of the Year Awards are designed to celebrate and recognise the breadth of musical talent in the Northern Territory. The winners will be revealed at the awards night on Saturday, June 27, 2015.

Along with the category winners and the Overall NT Song of the Year there will also be a People's Choice revealed on June 27, so get online and tell us which of the finalists' tracks is your favourite. Voting is open now and closes on Monday June 22 at 5pm (ACST).
