Jet are returning to the road to celebrate the 15th anniversary of their internationally charting Get Born debut album – and symbolically launching it with a free lunch time (1pm) concert today at AC/DC Lane in their hometown Melbourne.
The band said in a statement, “We’re really excited to play Get Born in full for the first time ever.
“The idea of playing this album and celebrating 15 years since began our journey is something that’s very special to us, and we can’t wait to get out there and see old friends again, and meet plenty of new ones as well.”
Drummer Chris Cester, frontman Nic Cester, guitarist Cameron Muncey and bassist Mark Wilson put Jet together in 2001 and quickly established themselves as a live force on the rise with residencies in Melbourne.
Their first EP Dirty Sweet was issued a year later, and on vinyl only.
They received a lot of international and local label attention, and famously signed their (faxed) Australian contract on the bonnet of a car during Beat magazine’s traditional Christmas party in the car park of its offices.
Their US label was Elektra.

Get Born was recorded in Los Angeles with Dave Sardy (Marilyn Manson, The Dandy Warhols).
Sessions were disrupted midway when the band had to return to Australia to open for The Rolling Stones.
Get Born took its name from a Bob Dylan song ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’.
It included tracks as first single ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl’ which despite (or because of) its identical guitar riff to Iggy Pop’s ‘Lust For Life’, was used in an Apple ad, hit the US and European rock charts, and topped the triple j Hottest 100.
The record also included ‘Rollover DJ’ about their frustration of getting early gigs because Melbourne clubs were enveloped in dance music, ‘Radio Song’ about their early attempts at success, ‘Timothy’ about Muncey’s brother who died when he was a baby, ‘Look What You’ve Done’ and ‘Get Me Outta Here’
Get Born sold over 6.5 million around the globe. In Australia it was certified 10 x platinum.
Subsequent albums Shine On (2006) and Shaka Rock (2009) did not fare as well as they split in 2012.
They got back together last year to open for Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band’s tour, and then stayed together for more Australian shows and a slot on Japan’s Fuji Rock festival.
A new album Get Born: Live At The Forum will be released in May to coincide with the tour.
The dates, through Live Nation, are:
Tuesday May 29: Nex, Newcastle
Thursday May 31: Enmore Theatre, Sydney
Saturday June 2: UC Refectory, Canberra
Monday June 4: The Tivoli, Brisbane
Thursday June 7: Metro Cty, Perth
Saturday June 9: Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide
Monday June 11: Forum Theatre, Melbourne
