In November, the charge brought against AC/DC’s Phil Rudd for attempting to procure a murder was dropped. Today, the drummer was sentenced to eight months home detention for possession of cannabis and methamphetamine and one charge of threatening to kill.

Appearing in front of Judge Thomas Ingram at the Tauranga District Court today, Rudd was told he would be imprisoned if he breached the sentence and would be monitored 24 hours a day for the eight month sentence.

Rudd will serve the sentence at his Tauranga waterfront mansion, where he has been residing since he plead guilty to the charges last November.

According to New Zealand news website Stuff, the court had heard that Rudd was addicted to methamphetamine and his actions were carried out under methamphetamine phychosis.

Solicitors for the Australian-born artist, who has lived in Tauranga for several years, told the court Rudd would lose tens of millions in lost profits from touring with AC/DC. In February, the iconic rock band performed the Grammy Awards with former drummer Chris Slade. Slade has joined them for the full Rock or Bust World Tour which took in US festival Coachella in April.

In an interview with A Current Affair, Rudd said "They haven't called me. I wrote them a letter and I tried to get in touch with Angus but I've had no contact from anybody.”
