PRESS RELEASE:

In recognition of the limited opportunities for art music composers to have their works performed, APRA AMCOS has initiated the Art Music Fund.

Australian and New Zealand composers are now invited to apply for a grant from a total pool of AUD$100,000. The funding is available for the creation of commissioned work that is complemented by an exploitation program – designed to maximise the life of the work.

It is expected that composers will collaborate with ensembles, orchestras, producers, recording companies, broadcasters, festivals and other parties to propose the writing of a work that will be guaranteed multiple exposures by way of performances, recordings, broadcasts or digital dissemination.

The initiative, announced last year alongside additional measures to support art music composers, exists to see new works distributed as widely as possible amongst audiences in Australia and around the world.

Applications will be assessed by three criteria: the viability of the proposed project; the quality of the work and the quality of the plan for the life and reach of the work.

The extent to which the proposed work will be guaranteed presentation, promotion and opportunities to achieve ongoing exposure outcomes is key. Therefore, the relationships and commitment formed between composers and other parties is a vital component.

APRA AMCOS expects that the resulting partnerships – across multiple parties – will result in impressive and inspiring projects, and invites composers to submit an application now.
