The annual Australian Songwriters Conference (ASC) is today launching a crowd-funding campaign on Pozible..
The ASC is held Thursday June 7 to Monday 11 on the NSW Central Coast, for the fourth time at the Ettalong Beach Tourist Resort.
ASC founder and coordinator Lisa Butler tells TMN that the campaign target is $12,000, with the rest of the $35,000 cost of the event coming from registration and cash reserves.
“We keep it informal and small, to about 80 delegates, because that’s how they want it.
“They like the fact it allows them to take in what they want to learn, and to really inter-relate with, and learn from, mentors and music industry executives rather than just a handshake and a photo opp.”
The ASC will have up to 25 speakers, mentors and workshop presenters over the four days discussing writing, publishing, production and career momentum.
The event is open to songwriters, DJs, artists and producers, as well as managers and publishers.

“If they know how to write a song, we’ll show them how to write a song that stands out enough to get a cut,” Butler says.
“You need to also have an understanding of the music industry to better move their careers.”
The ASC also has song pitching directly to publishers, on-site recording and production to get studio tips from experienced producers, live showcases by attendees and a song contest for attendees.
Campaign rewards include mentoring, as well as a co-write with Grammy winning Alan Roy Scott, extra mentoring, workshop and song pitches, a three year ASC membership, limited edition Michael Hutchence prints and vouchers towards recording sessions.
Butler reveals, “The costs associated with staging an event of this magnitude get higher each year, so in late 2018 we want the ASC to become a non-profit association.
“This will make it easier to obtain arts and government funding for the event, and secure its future for the benefit of all Australian songwriters for many years to come.”
