Barunga Festival 2016 announces music line-up

Courtney Barnett and Jen Cloher, Gurrumul, Justine Clarke and Wildflower amongst confirmed performers

Barunga Festival 2016: ‘Celebrate Women, Celebrate Community Life’, 

 Friday 10th – Sunday 12th July, 2016

NT’s Barunga Festival is very proud and excited to announce its initial music lineup for 2016, complementing the theme ‘Celebrating Women’.

Heading up the 2016 performers is Courtney Barnett, who will perform a very special set with acclaimed singer songwriter Jen Cloher.

Justine Clarke joins Barunga for the first time.  Justine is a best-selling children’s singer, accomplished children’s author, highly regarded film and TV star, seasoned stage actor and a much-loved, reassuring presence on TV institution, Play School.


No stranger to the Barunga stage, Gurrumul returns to play live for a fifth year. He’ll perform his exciting new TRIBE2tribe electro show, a totally modern take on traditional songs and sounds, complete with DJ’s!


Also joining the line up is Wildflower band, an inspirational group of five young women from Mammadawerre, who perform pop music in indigenous language.


Barunga Festival is held over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend from 10am Friday 10th to midnight Sunday 12th July 2016, at Barunga community 70kms south-east of Katherine on the Central Arnhem Road, in the glorious Territory dry season.  Barunga is a unique blend of Music, Sport and Culture, with a strong emphasis on cultural exchange and collaboration.

Further artists will be announced early 2016.

The 31st annual Barunga Festival will highlight the role, influence and importance of women in community life with a strong line-up of events, activities and local and national performers to showcase the talented and inspiring women in all of our communities.
