Forget about Spotify’s fake artists, triple j’s Ben and Liam staged the ultimate red carpet stitch up at yesterday’s ARIA Awards.

They did a fine job too as reporters and photographers began to snap and chat with the “stars”. TV presenter James Tobin even fell victim, taking aside Kevin Parker and listening to his half-baked story about seeing Daryl Braithwaite perform in “a pub in the middle of nowhere”.

The operation was a lasting success, for the most part, before the imposter who was acting as Adam Hyde was uncovered by the real Adam Hyde himself.

In a completely unrelated endeavour, Ben & Liam made a call out in November seeking anyone who looked exactly like a famous Australian musician to come forward in a very hush-hush scheme coined Operation: Winterfell.

The callout says it all: “To get in is borderline impossible. Unless you blend in. Unless you’re one of those special people who don’t even need a ticket, because your face is the ticket.”
