brunswick hotel forced to close indefinitely due to flood damage

The Brunswick Hotel has been forced to close until further notice, after flood damage was caused by a fire hydrant outside the Melbourne venue.

The hydrant was compromised when a car mounted the curb outside the venue, breaking the fire hydrant and flooding the building.

"Due to some idiot mounting the kerb and flooding the venue from above with a fire hydrant, The Brunswick Hotel will be closed until further notice," posted the venue on Facebook.

"This has caused flood and structure damage to the building."

"Any bands or functions will be put on hold and you’ll be contacted soon to apologise."

Staff found water dripping into the venue's beer garden like a fountain in the early hours of Thursday morning last week, manager David Frankie Cudmore told the Herald Sun.

“I was at home and got a call and got out of bed to find people dancing under the water,” Cudmore said.

“The stage area with all the PA equipment was flooded and the ceiling collapsed in a few places.”

The venue also posted an image of its staff, calling for anyone with work available for the forseeable future to get in contact.
