Just off some raved-about shows at South By Southwest – where the Los Angeles Times hailed her as “delivering one of the day's breakout sets” and “a star in the making” – new Melbourne sensation G Flip has announced debut shows in Sydney and Melbourne.
These are at:
Thursday May 10 - Oxford Art Factory Gallery Bar, Sydney
Saturday May 12 - The Workers Club, Melbourne
“I’ve been dreaming of the day I’ll get to perform my own songs to an (Australian) audience for some time now,” she posted.
The SXSW shows were compelling, full of radio friendly electro-pop slabs as debut single ‘About You’ and’ Killing My Time’ while she entertained the sold-out crowd with tales of recording a new single after being hammered at a family function and exuberant on-stage energy.
The 24-year-old singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer already created a buzz with 'About You', instantly appealing because the track and its video deliberately and cheekily break the rules.

She wrote it in two hours, some of it while having a shower.
She told triple j, “I always thought that if I’m going to come into this music world as a chick drumming then I want the first thing I do on the drums to be a little bit of a solo… it just felt right that that would be the first song.”
Since being uploaded it to triple j Unearthed, the track topped Spotify charts and received praise internationally form NPR's All Songs Considered, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, The LA Times and Pigeons and Planes.
It was recorded in a day in her bedroom studio using "a shitty mic from the local pawn shop.”
Georgia Flipo started out playing drums as an eight year old after an uncle gave her a blue kit as a present, and by 19 was a touring drummer in the US with the band EMPRA.
Last year she locked herself in her bedroom, bought a midi keyboard and taught herself how to write and produce her own songs.
During this period she created a round LED screen for the front of her hand-made kick drum which can display any imagery, video or content that Flip can dream up.
The Je Ro Mo, G Flip's animated "talking drum kit" is named after her late drum teacher Jenny Rose Morrish, whom she describes as “my absolute idol” and who died three years ago aged 31 from cancer.
