The City of Sydney Council’s Cultural and Community Committee meets next Monday (March 31) to consider adopting the Live Music Matters action plan.

The plan’s list of recommendations came from the Live Music Taskforce which the Council created in 2012. They include: informing the City of the best ways to support the live music and performance industry; developing an action plan to address barriers for live music and performance providers; proposing solutions to support the sustainability and vibrancy of the industry; presenting the draft live music and live performance action plan to Council.

The public consultation for the report saw support from 84% of respondents, with a further 11% offering support in principle.

Labor Councillor Linda Scott is encouraging local musicians to attend the meeting at Sydney Town Hall to address the Council. Scott told TMN, “We need space for our children to learn instruments, places for our bands to rehearse, and places for our musicians to play. I’m pleased that there has been significant public support for supporting live music. Now it is time for action from Council.
