US company Clear Channel will now be known as iHeartMedia, in a rebranding effort designed to promote itself as a global digital radio outlet.

iHeartMedia chairman and CEO Bob Pittman said in a statement: “"We know how to program the live content people want to hear, see and share right now… and we deliver more live programming than any other media company today.”"

It’s interesting Pittman should say as much. iHeartMedia’’s global expansion outside of the States began in Australia last year through a tie-up with ARN. Only last week however it announced the cancellation of its first local music festival in Sydney, with promoters Dainty claiming it was unable to secure a second headliner to perform alongside Miley Cyrus.

Clear Channel operates 859 radio stations in more than 150 markets. It claims more than 245 million listeners are tuning into its radio offerings every month, while iHeartMedia Digital reaches 90 million digital monthly uniques.
