Im Drinking It For You

A humorous New Zealand alcohol ad that turns choosing a low carb beer into a gesture of romantic love - to the background of a R&B music video - was the best Valentine’s Day ad in the world.

DB Export Beer worked with the Colenso BBDO and The Sweetshop agencies for its new low-carb Gold brand.

“Who are you drinking it for? I’m drinking it for you.”

The 4-minute original song ‘I'm Drinking It For You’ has already hit #2 on the NZ iTunes chart and generated over 71,000 views.

Couples on social media have indicated they want to use it for their upcoming nuptials.

The Kiwi couple, rising singing talents Keshia & Tom, star in the video and sang the song, which is available on all streaming platforms.

Colenso creatives Beth O'Brien and Thom Darlow said having a female and male character ensured the campaign spoke to everyone equally.

"It's great to see a beer brand give a one-handed salute to stereotypes, and speak to everyone equally,” they remarked.

“This work is a huge leap forward for beer advertising in NZ."

The Sweetshop MD and executive producer Fiona King said, "We love romance, great beer, and stories at Sweetshop. All inseparable.

“It was an absolute pleasure to acknowledge that drinking beer has a rightful higher purpose."
