PRESS RELEASE:

Cooking Vinyl Australia launched new imprint label Double Cross Records yesterday, a dedicated home for rock and heavy music releases in Australia.

Since opening for operation in 2013, CVA has released a staggering number of quality releases to an eager Australian audience, including albums from The Smashing Pumpkins (Monuments To An Elegy, 2014), Marilyn Manson (The Pale Emperor, 2015), City & Colour (The Hurry and The Harm, 2013), The Pretty Reckless (Going To Hell, 2014), Modern Baseball (You’re Gonna Miss It All, 2014) and Billy Bragg (Tooth & Nail, 2013).

CVA co-founders Stu Harvey and Leigh Gruppetta reveal that the creation of a dedicated heavy music label was an obvious decision given the pair’s previous experience working with some of the world’s foremost alternative acts including Bring Me The Horizon, The Bronx, The Sword, Melvins, Fantomas, Parkway Drive and Thy Art Is Murder. Double Cross also stands to benefit from the reputation and reach of Harvey, still several miles ahead of the curve after serving over ten years at the wheel of triple j’s punk rock program Short Fast Loud prior to his resignation late last year.

“Leigh and I have talked about a properly funded rock imprint label ever since we started CVA.  There is so much amazing music being produced, our aim for Double Cross is to build a diverse roster highlighting great rock and heavy music from all around the world.  We’ve definitely got some signings up our sleeve that may come as a surprise.”

In 2015, Double Cross will provide a home for heavily anticipated new releases from Canada’s Cancer Bats (Searching For Zero, March 2015) and the eagerly anticipated new album from legendary UK punk act Gallows (Desolation Sounds, April 2015).  The first local addition to the Double Cross roster will be Collingwood’s punk-metal legends High Tension.

Double Cross Records also serves as a binding force for an international rock community that benefits so much from a inextinguishable sense of community and camaraderie. The perfect example of which is the label’s first signing the Cancer Bats, a band long championed by Harvey and Gruppetta since their inception over a decade ago. The Bats’ now intimidating international presence and exceptional Australian audience was but a gleam in Harvey’s eye when he first distributed the quartet’s debut album Birthing The Giant way back in 2006. Now, in 2015, Double Cross confidently anticipate the band’s continued success with the release of Searching For Zero in March.

“We love working with good people, so we couldn’t be more excited that the first release on Double Cross will be our mates the Bats.”
