courtney barnett receives multiple nods for uks indie music awards

Melbourne artist Courtney Barnett shares the same number of nominations as British artists FKA Twigs and alt-J, and Scottish hip hop group Young Fathers for the UK’s 5th annual AIM Independent Awards.

Barnett is up for three awards: Hardest Working Band or Artist, Independent Breakthrough of the Year and Independent Track of the Year with her US radio favourite Pedestrian at Best.

Interestingly, it’s the second time she’s been nominated for the AIM Independent Breakthrough of the Year award. Last year she lost out to British trio London Grammar.

2015 has undoubtedly been a banner year for Barnett, who since releasing her debut album Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit earlier in the year, has been sought after and praised on both sides of the Pacific. The album debuted at #1 on the Rock, Alternative, Folk, Independent and Vinyl charts and entered the Billboard Top 200 at #20. The album entered at #16 in the UK, #19 in New Zealand, and #4 in Australia.

Last year Barnett performed some of the world’s biggest international festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza and Glastonbury, and in March last year she performed on US talk show The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. This year she’s added UK's Glastonbury festival to her worldwide accomplishments, as well as a performance on US talk show Ellen.

In March, Barnett was named one of the recipients of the Grulke Prize awarded by SXSW. The award included $10,000 cash plus a two-day studio and hotel package in LA at Nightbird Recording Studio and Sunset Marquis Hotel.

Most recently Barnett has launched a global guerilla marketing campaign for upcoming single Nobody Really Cares If You Don’t Go to the Party. Tonedeaf ran a story today whih included Instagram posts of posters and billboards bearing the song's title.
