On the eve of a return to play dates abroad, Sydney singer songwriter Dean Lewis announced a slab of overseas deals.

He’s now with Island Records in the USA and the UK, and with Universal in Canada, Germany, Sweden, France and Holland.

Lewis said, “A year ago I didn’t even have a song out!”

And a year ago he hadn’t generated 40 million streams either, that’s how quick his rise has been.

The international signings came after he showcased at the Great Escape in England, where music industry go to find new talent. He followed that up with headline shows in the UK and across Europe where he sold out seven shows in Belgium and the Netherlands.

He’s heading back overseas. On Thursday August 17, he’s playing the Drake Hotel in Toronto. He then heads to New York for a set at the Rockwood Music Hall (21), Hotel Café in Los Angeles (23) and St Panchas Old Church in London (September 27).

Back in Australia, last week he kicked off five shows along the East Coast, all of them sold out.

The first was in Sydney, at Oxford Arts Factory, where he expressed his excitement: “(I) usually struggle to appreciate things but last night was so overwhelming! 500 people singing back my songs. Just can’t explain how cool it was,”

The tour hits Howler, Melbourne for two shows this weekend (August 5 & 6). It heads up to Brisbane for two shows at Black Bear Lodge (August 11 & 12).

Meantime, as his debut single from the Waves EP is certified double platinum in Australia after peaking at #12 on the ARIA chart, his latest single Lose My Mind is the third track lifted off his EP Same Kind Of Different.

Lewis reveals, “Lose My Mind could be my favourite song on the EP, it’s about how you feel when you are on the verge of losing someone and you feel like you can’t live without them.

“It’s like the first night without that person who has been there for you.

“I remember feeling like the walls were closing in cause that person who I could always turn to was gone.

“That felt like losing my mind.”
