dean lewis hits triple platinum status for waves new single goes gold

He may not have collected an ARIA award this week, but Universal Music Australia signee Dean Lewis has plenty to celebrate this week.

Lewis’ breakthrough hit single ’Waves’, which peaked at 16 on the TMN Hot 100 (and remains on the airplay chart today), is officially triple Platinum, and his latest record ’Lose My Mind’ is now certified Gold.

Currently performing across the country, the singer-songwriter has sold out shows in Fremantle, Perth, Geelong, Newcastle and two gigs in Melbourne. He heads to NSW and QLD next week as part his triple j-presented national tour.

Lewis and Sia both had five nominations at this year’s ARIA Awards. "When Sia’s name came up next to mine at the nominations event, it was just amazing," he tells TMN.

He was up for Breakthrough Artist, Best Pop Release, Best Video and Apple Best Song of the Year for ’Waves’ (which has hit over 67 million streams and 13 million video views worldwide). His debut EP Same Kind of Different continues to reach the masses with 93 million streams globally.

"I don’t think any of us expected it to do this.

"We would have thought we’d have an album out by now, but just because it’s kept growing its delayed everything. It’s the perfect position to be in."
