Deep Sea Arcade launches studio in Sydney

Sydney’s Deep Sea Arcade are proud to announce the launch of new rehearsal space, recording studio and artist collective - VISIONS Studios. Based in the heart of Sydney at Central Station (Chippendale), VISIONS Studios have been established by the members of Deep Sea Arcade as a haven for Australia’s burgeoning alternative music community.

Inspired by similar ventures by artists including The Horrors, Nick Cave and Black Angels, Deep Sea Arcade launched the VISIONS brand as a Sydney-based club night in late-2013. Since then, the event has taken over a range of local venues across fourteen editions, including Oxford Art Factory, The Standard, Cliff Dive and Waywards in Newtown.

Launched as a means of showcasing some of Australia’s most important emerging artists, VISIONS have translated their ethos from local venues across to the recording studio; opening a space for Australian artists that wish to rehearse, collaborate and record together in the spirit of collective creativity. The list of artists that have already signed on to collaborate within the space include Upskirts, Flowertruck, The Tsars, High Tails, Polish Club, Black Zeros, Jody, Rookie, Bad Jeep and Blackwater Boys.

Founding director and Deep Sea Arcade member, Nic McKenzie, on the ethos behind VISIONS Studios:

“VISIONS Studios is our offering to the Sydney musical community, located at Central station with all of our gear and instruments set up. We want to create an environment that is cheaper than any rehearsal studio for bands we love to turn up, plug in, rehearse and record together in an inspiring space.”

With an average monthly attendance of 450 punters, the VISIONS night has previously featured appearances from Sures, The Creases, Shining Bird, The Preatures, DMA’s and Splashh (USA). 

The 15th edition of VISIONS will be held tonight (Friday June 5) at Waywards in Newtown.  Entry is free for all patrons.
