Dire Straits' lead guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Mark Knopfler has launched a global competition for his next music video.

Knopfler has teamed with Virgin EMI and collaborative platform for artists and brands Talenthouse, to offer film and video directors the chance to have their own work become the official video for his new track, Wherever I Go, taken from his forthcoming solo album Tracker.

The selected creator will receive $£4,000 from EMI, work with Knopfler and receive global exposure - the clip will be promoted across VEVO and Virgin EMI’s social media channels.

Maya Bogle co-founder of Talenthouse told TMN: “Brands like EMI are partnering Talenthouse to empower, support and reward the world’s creative community, and open doors to vital new career opportunities for them.

“This partnership allows creatives everywhere to connect with one of the world’s biggest and best-loved brands, make money from their art and showcase their work to millions of people around the world.”

The video can be a full music video or a lyric video, it can be shot, animated or short film. Creatives have until 23 March, 2015 at 6pm GMT to submit their ideas here.

Michael Rivalland, Senior Marketing Manager at Virgin EMI, said: “This is the first time Mark has ever done anything like this. Traditionally he is a private person but he’s allowing music out there before the release of Tracker to encourage a new generation of creatives to interpret and create from his work.”
