Australia’s finest worldly bluesman C.W. Stoneking is back and it sounds like he is having more fun than ever. Get on the Floor, an energetic jump-blues number, sounds like it’s 80-years-old – as all of Stoneking’s best work does – but has a vitality that is timeless.
It’s hard to pinpoint the best thing about this song; Stoneking’s gruff holler in the chorus, the joyous vocals of his female backing singers or just the way the whole thing swings so hard.
You could spend years trying to figure out how Stoneking manages to so brilliantly replicate sounds from a time and place that he is so far removed from. But it’s a lot more fun just to kick back and enjoy what one of the country’s best entertainers has to offer us.
We love the latest direction he’s gone in for this first single from his Gon’ Boogaloo record and can’t wait for more.
