The PutBacks
Kung Fu Pyramids

If you’re not listening to The PutBacks yet, that has to change.  The proliferation of new funk and soul bands has brought us some great music, but none better than what these Melbourne cats have been cooking up. Their Dawn album, with the brilliant Emma Donovan, will soon be considered an Aussie classic, but on Kung Fu Pyramids they prove they’ve got plenty to offer on their own as well.

The song is driven by an incredible guitar line and while that’s the biggest part of the song, what the rest of the band do around it is just as important. It’s a flurry of interlocking rhythms, organ blasts and rock solid bass that rarely lets up. It’s a deep groove that you’ll struggle to get out of – but that’s okay, because you won’t want to. Snap up the 45 and play it loud.
