double j pick of the week thunderbitch

Brittany Howard is unstoppable. She has already dropped one of the best records of the year in Sound and Color with her band Alabama Shakes, but that apparently is not enough. Thunderbitch is a new project Howard has been cooking up. While Sound & Color was nuanced and insidious, this material is far more clear cut. Let Me Do What I Do Best is two minutes and twenty seconds of straight ahead roots-rock gold.

Howard's voice is one of the most powerful instruments in rock'n'roll, so anything she appears on is instantly elevated thanks to the gritty soul she injects into every line she spits. It works great in both projects. Hell, it's hard to image Howard singing anything that doesn't sound great.
