drakes one dance is australias top single for 2016

It’s official, Drake’s One Dance ft. WizKid & Kyla is Australia’s most popular single of 2016. The track dominated music platforms throughout the year, forcing its way to #1 on the TMN Year End Artist Top 50, the only Australian chart to calculate an artist’s cumulative performance across radio airplay, digital sales and streaming.

One Dance hit #1 on the Australian Spotify chart in its second week, remaining there for thirteen weeks. Not surprisingly, One Dance was the Most Streamed track in both Australia and the world, and this week became the first song to be streamed one billion times on Spotify. It also hit #1 on the TMN Hot 100 airplay chart, where it resided for 36 weeks.

Justin Timberlake’s Can’t Stop The Feeling secures the #2 single of the year. It scored the highest ever debut on the TMN Hot 100 at #9. Taken from the soundtrack to the film Trolls, the single spent two weeks at #1 on the Hot 100, one week at the top of iTunes while peaking at #8 on the Spotify Chart.

Looking across the other major platforms, 2016’s dance upstarts The Chainsmokers hold the #1 position on both the iTunes and YouTube charts with Don’t Let Me Down and Closer, respectively. Taking out this year’s #1 spot on the Shazam chart is Kiiara’s Gold, while pop icon Justin Bieber claims #1 on Vevo with Sorry.

Independent Melbourne country group Deep Creek Road earned the #1 track on the Year End Country chart with Anchor. The track peaked at #4 on the Official Country Airplay chart maintaining a charting position until the last weeks of December. Flume’s Never Be Like You ft. Kai is the #1 Dance track. The track made headlines halfway through 2016 after featuring as the #1 single in TMN’s Mid Year report.
