first headliner confirmed for stereosonic 2015

The first headliner of Australia’s biggest electronic music festival has been revealed a week ahead of the full lineup. US hit-making trio Major Lazer have confirmed they will be heading down under for the national Stereosonic tour this November and December, which the group’s main man Diplo revealed in an interview with news.com.au today.

The news comes as little surprise, given that Australia is home to the majority of Major Lazer fans outside of the US and the UK. The group’s latest album Peace is the Mission has received a huge amount of airplay down under since its release, with single Lean On (featuring vocals from Danish sensation MØ) storming to the top of the charts.

“In Australia, we have had a bunch of pop records that have gone platinum there before anywhere else in the world,” Diplo told news.com.au.

“We are not going out of our way to be pop, it’s just working there for us. Even my publisher looks at the Australian charts first now.”

As yet, Major Lazer are the first and only headliner to have been revealed for Stereosonic 2015, with the full lineup dropping Wednesday July 15.

STEREOSONIC 2015 DATES:
Sat November 28 – Sydney
Sun November 29 – Perth
Sat December 5 – Adelaide
Sat December 5 – Melbourne
Sun December 6 – Brisbane
