Go Betweens, The Voice, win at Screen Producers Awards

The Go-Betweens and Nine Network’s The Voice were among winners-are-grinners at the Screen Producers Awards in Melbourne.

The Go-Betweens: Right Here (Essential Media and Entertainment) took out Single Documentary of the Year. 

Kriv Stenders’ award-winning documentary will be airing at 9:30 p.m. on November 21 on ABC as part of the broadcaster’s Artsville programming series.

At the same time, the band is enjoying a burst of additional popularity in Europe via Robert Forster’s memoir Grant & I, which was voted 2017’s Book of the Year by MOJO and Uncut, and which he has been promoting with performance and conversation format shows with upcoming dates in Paris and Germany this month.

The Voice Australia (ITV Studios Australia) trumped all-comers for Reality Series of the Year.

After a triumphant grand finale this year which drew 1.306 million overnight metro viewers watching 20-year old Judah Kelly’s win, the show returns in 2018.

Delta Goodrem, Boy George and Kelly Rowlands are confirmed to return as mentors, but Nine has rejected published claims that Usher will replace Seal on the revolving red chair.

In other music-related wins, veteran TV producer Pam Barnes (who worked closely with the music industry during her stints at Hey Hey It’s Saturday, The X Factor, Australia’s Got Talent and the Logies, was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award. 

Matchbox Pictures whose projects number Mrs Carey’s Concert and Home Song Stories, took home Production Business of the Year.
