google australia creates australias biggest collaborative love song

PRESS RELEASE:

To celebrate Mardi Gras, Google Australia is today releasing an Australia-wide love song, with contributions from over 1,000 Australians, including Guy Sebastian, Megan Washington and the Jezabels.

The single aims to raise awareness of homophobia and transphobia, show that love is stronger than hate, and raise money for Twenty10, a nonprofit that helps LGBTI youth with emergency housing and other support.

The lyrics were submitted by people online and at Fair Day, in one shared Google Doc. Toby Martin (formerly of Youth Group) had the daunting task of selecting his favourites and pulling them together into a song, which he performed on the main stage at Fair Day.

Andrew Ure, Spokesperson for Google said: “The original idea came from our LGBT group - the Gayglers. But the local community quickly got on board and made it so much bigger than we expected.”

The song is available for free download on the Google Play store here, and Google will contribute $1 per download to Twenty10, up to $50,000. (This is in addition to a $10,000 donation made to Twenty10 made on the day the song was created).
