Red Bull Sound Select, an innovative artist development program designed to support and uncover local music talent, has launched today in Australia.
Since its inception a few years ago, Red Bull Sound Select has cut its teeth in North America, Canada and New Zealand. Working closely with an eclectic team of highly respected curators and tastemakers like KCRW, AMEOBA Music, Brooklyn Vegan etc, Red Bull Sound Select has become a destination to discover new music - now it’s Australia’s turn.
For those who like to see their music live, a series of monthly shows, curated by music fans for music fans also launches this month in Sydney. Red Bull Sound Select has invited two highly respected industry heads to curate 2016’s program, I OH YOU’s Johann Ponniah, and LANEWAY FESTIVAL’s Travis Banko.
Each monthly showcase will feature a handpicked line-up of three acts, one headliner, preceded by two Red Bull Sound Select emerging artists. Presented by I OH YOU the first show will take place on April 29 at the Chippendale Hotel and it’s set to be massive!
“We are really psyched to be one of the curators for the Australian arm of Red Bull Sound Select. As fans of what the program has been achieving internationally, we’re incredibly excited to be a part of bringing it to Australian shores. Just hoping we can keep pushing the envelope like other curators have been internationally and program some of the best up and coming talent that Australia has to offer (and there’s a lot of it!," said Johann Ponniah
Having recently signed by 4AD, taken SXSW by storm and dominated airwaves the country over, Red Bull Sound Select is pleased to announce WA’sMethyl Ethel as the very first headlining act. Hailing from Melbourne and joining the Red Bull Sound Select Family is Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and rounding out the bill and flying the flag for Sydney we have local darlings Flowertruck.

· First come best dressed! Capacity is limited at the shows. With RSVP tickets are only $3 , without the cover charge is $10
· Red Bull Sounds Select takes place in Sydney on the last Friday of every month beginning April 29
· Each show will be presented by either I OH YOU (Johann Ponniah) or LANEWAY FESTIVAL (Travis Banko)
· The audience will be treated to a bunch of surprises, particularly those who arrive early
