18-year-old Daniel Simpson attended two of The Smith Street Band’s concerts in his hometown of Brisbane last weekend.

He was captured in the front row breaking down in tears and was singled out by the band after the show and given the gift of a lifetime from frontman Wil Wagner: his guitar.

Gold 104.3’s Jo & Lehmo tracked down Simpson to find out more about his experience at the concert in Brisbane. He told the pair a heartfelt story about how the band’s music helped him through some tough times.

“I discovered them in a really dark period of my life… after that second song I just started crying,” Simpson said, while opening up about his struggles with autism, depression and anxiety.

Touched by Simpson’s story, Jo & Lehmo wanted to give him the opportunity to see The Smith Street Band play in their home city of Melbourne.

“We know here at Gold that music changes lives, that music can lift you out of some pretty dark places,” Jo said.

Gold will fly Simpson and a friend down to The Forum in Melbourne this Friday night to watch Smith Street take the stage once again.
