After five years in the role, ABC Director of Radio, Kate Dundas, is leaving the broadcaster in July.  She will take up a scholarship with the Vincent Fairfax Fellowship through the Centre for Ethical Leadership at the University of Melbourne.

“While a difficult decision to reach, I feel it is absolutely the right time for me to hand over the stewardship of what is obviously my favourite part of the ABC," Dundas said. “I have no other firm plans in place at this stage, other than to take a short break and then consider what other interesting challenges there are for me to do.”

Under her watch, the ABC grew its audience from a combined share of 21.2% and a combined reach of 3.8m people in 2008 to a combined share of 24.6% and a combined reach of 4.6m today.

ABC Managing Director Mark Scott told TMN, “Kate has been an inspired leader of ABC Radio and a much valued member of the ABC Executive over the last five years. She always said she felt five years was about the right period of time to serve as the Head of Radio – and I am disappointed I have been unable to change her mind about that.”
