Kesha’s lawsuit against Dr. Luke halted

Kesha Sebert’s allegations against producer Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald have been placed on hold, following the decision from a Californian judge today.

L.A Superior Judge Barbara Scheper stated that her decision was based on the contractual provision in Kesha’s lawsuit, which claims that along with sexually assaulting her, Dr. Luke refused to negotiate the terms of her record deal after she raised concerns.

“Although the plaintiff does not allege any cause of action for breach of contract she certainly does implicate the contracts and indeed asks the court to void them,” wrote Scheper.

Kesha’s lawsuit, which was recently amended to include Sony Music as a defendant, alleges that Dr. Luke had sexually abused her and attempted to take control of her career.

Dr. Luke filed a counter-lawsuit in New York, on the claims that Kesha defamed him over a dispute of her record deal.

Kesha’s attorneys argued that Kesha did not freely enter the contracts and that L.A was the center of issues involved in the lawsuit, not New York.

However, Sheper responded that there was no evidence to suggest that negotiations were not made long-distance, nor that Kesha was even a resident of California.

The dispute between Kesha and Dr. Luke will now continue in New York, with Kesha’s attorneys likely to issue a counter-claim to match her allegations in California.
