PRESS RELEASE:

Following the announcement of Legion Music Fest, the Australian music festival tackling a world-record crowd funding campaign, the organisers have announced an initiative that will give all local bands that fall under the ‘heavy music’ genre a chance to be involved.

Legion have partnered with GiggedIn, a company that champions crowd sourcing for the Australian music industry, in order to run a competition that affords each of the bands an even playing field.

Legion founder, John Sankey said that supporting local talent is something that is fundamental to the ethic that he has created for the festival.

“We made a commitment to support local bands and the local industry and we meant it,” he said.

Once each band submits they will be reviewed by a panel of industry experts, including Sankey himself along with record label executives, award winning producers, music media experts and the event’s organisers, to determine the finalists for each state.

The fans will then vote; with the top six bands from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, and the top band from Adelaide and Perth, being given the coveted spot on their home stage.

“We turn to the fans for all major decision making, so why should this be any different?” said Sankey.

Bands are asked to submit 1 song, 1 music video link, a short bio and a photo to go in the running.

Should they be successful, they will go on to play alongside 25+ other international and local bands, with the event organisers set to announce major headliners shortly.
