Australia’s obsession with Seven’s House Rules saw Nine Network’s The Voice slip down last night to its lowest figures this season while Nine’s Adele’s Live In London, which followed immediately after at 9.30 pm, drew less fans than her New York concert telecast in May.

The Voice’s first live show drew 984,000 metro viewers, compared to 990,000 for House Rules and 918,000 for Ten’s Masterchef which dominated the 16-39 and 18-49 year old demos last night. The Voice was 4th in the 25 to 54 and 18 to 49 groups, with its strongest draw in Sydney and Melbourne.

With a lower lead-in, Adele Live In London drew 570,000 metros and ranked 17th show of Monday night. (Earlier this month, when aired on NBC in America, 6.1 million tuned in).

In May, when Adele Live in New York aired after a The Voice episode, which had 1.3 million metros, it drew 830,000.

Last night’s The Voice saw a guest appearance from Boy George, currently touring Australia with Culture Club. George was a coach on The Voice UK, gave some pointers to the judges, and admitted he’d be apprehensive to sing before Jessie J because he rated her voice highly.

The episode showed that four artists were safe: Team Delta’s Alfie Arcuri, Team Jessie J’s Mikaela Dean, Team Madden’s Aaliyah Warren and Team Ronan’s Mitch Gardner.

On the weekend before the live shows, Jessie J had her team around for a home-cooked chicken and veg dinner while Ronan Keating took his choices out to a restaurant.
