Yarra Council in Melbourne has rejected a push to name a laneway in the suburb of Abbotsford after Davey Lane, guitarist with You Am I.

The push was mounted by Greg Kleynjans and Mick Thomas who run The Yarra Hotel who nominated the laneway behind the hotel on which Lane lives. But Council explained the guidelines were Lane had to be dead or Indigenous.

The guitarist told The Music Network, “It’d obviously be insanely egotistical of me to seriously believe I deserve to have a street named after me. I’d vote for Ronnie (Lane, of Small Faces fame) or Don (Lane, one time TV host) myself.”

Lane meantime is offering a hand-carved customised guitar, a two-hour studio session, a personalised version of one of his tracks and a cookbook of his recipes as part of a Pozible fundraiser to raise money for a solo album.  He’s already reached two-third of the target.
