missy elliot sales and streams surge after super bowl

Following Missy Elliot’s show-stealing cameo at yesterday’s Super Bowl, the rapper and songwriter is seeing a major jump in sales and streams of her music.

Nielsen Music figures show her sales were at 6,000 downloads for the week ending January 25 but this week could see downloads hiking upwards of 70,000. Nielsen will release these figures tomorrow.

The three track-medley Elliot performed with Katy Perry at her Super Bowl halftime show yesterday (Get Ur Freak On, Work It and Lose Control) are picked to sell around 15,000 to 20,000 downloads for the week – that’s up from 1,000 downloads the week prior. Elliot also had eight tracks in the iTunes Top 200 as of this morning.

On Spotify alone streams of Elliot’s tracks increased by 676% between 11pm and midnight in the US. Her track Lose Control saw streams increase by 1396%, Get Ur Freak On increased by 922% and Work It streams increased by 896%.
