MTV Brand New is the youth brand’s new national competition which gives some of the hottest Australian and New Zealand artists the chance to break internationally. TMN is featuring a nominated artist each week.

WINTERBOURE
(UMA)

A lot can be said for Winterbourne’s unique vocal arrangements and trademark sound. Some have described their music as “rustic rock”, others simply dubbed them “folk-rock.” They’ve been compared to the likes of Boy and Bear, Vance Joy and The Temper Trap, and the aforementioned genres have played a part in shaping them; the duo were drawn together eight years ago by their mutual love for The Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel.

Winterbourne’s following originated from the streets – literally. Every weekend, James Draper and Jordon Brady would wake up at 4am to drive to Sydney, where they would stake out for nine hours to nab the main busking spot in Pitt Street Mall. The same would happen in Melbourne. Busking on the streets was where the duo would amass their fanbase, grabbing passer-by’s attentions with their strong harmonies and energetic performances. Eventually, the Central Coast natives would catch the industry’s attention and launch their career to full steam ahead.

Since signing with Island Records Australia last year, Winterbourne’s debut EP All But The Sun was released and peaked at #9 on the iTunes Album Charts. Even supporting Patrick James and Little May nationally, it seems as though their fans can’t get enough – with Winterbourne’s first headlining tour selling out seven of fifteen dates. The boys have also had their fair share of festival gigs, playing across the country at Surry Hills Festival, Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, Mountain Sounds and Nannup Festival, just to name a few. All the while continuing to craft their sophisticated sound and captivate new listeners in the process.
