Mullum Music Festival and The Rock and Roll Coffee Company Café in Mullumbimby, NSW are presenting a 10 Year Retrospective Photographic Exhibition (24th Oct – 27 Nov) featuring the work of seven local photographers who have been capturing the magic of Mullum Music Festival for many years.

“Mullum is a whole town festival where things are happening on every street corner, in every venue.” said Festival General Manager Nino Haggith, “Over the years there have been countless classic ‘Mullum Moments’ and this group of local photographers has been there, immersing themselves in everything going on. It’s such a thrill to see this collection of photos together. This is our story and we are so grateful to our family of photographer friends for helping to tell it.”

Each photographer has selected their favourite photos that capture the spirit of Mullum Music Festival covering everything from performances, activity on the streets, colourful characters and patrons of all ages enjoying themselves. Together their works provide a spectacular visual story of a unique community in celebration.

Mullum Music Festival is a photographer’s delight as many of the exhibiting artists attest.

“The reason I love shooting Mullum is because it is so full of joy! There is so much to see at each venue and the movement of people in between creates a street photographers dream,” says Kirra Pendergast, who has been taking photos since she was 12 years old. Director of local website Common Ground, Kirra also mentors young student photographers at Mullum Music Festival each year, showing them ropes of festival and street photography.

“The joy the festival inspires in the town I love is uplifting," says photographer and local legend Jeff Dawson who is also one of the founding members of the long-running independent paper The Byron Shire Echo “I love the lack of insecurity.”

Photographer Hamish McCormick moved back to the area after 15 years of documenting performing artists at festivals around the world and says “Mullum Festival is my favourite of the festivals in a shire full of festivals. The community and town engagement, the artists, organisers, crew and volunteers all contribute to create a wonderful and unique vibe".

Photographer and radio presenter Anthony Moulay agrees “The vast community involvement and the eclectic mix of talented artists are the essential ingredients which makes Mullum Music Festival so special. It’s how a musical festival should feel. It’s been a lot of fun to play a small part in documenting the festival over its 10-year history.”

The Mullum Music Festival 10 Year Retrospective Photographic Exhibition will run from Tues 24 Oct to 27 Nov at the Rock and Roll Café in Mullumbimby so visitors can check it out during this year’s festival. All the photographic prints will be available for sale.
