Singer-songwriter Dua Lipa led the nominations for next month’s BRIT awards with five gongs including best album and best single.

Lipa reached #1 in the UK last year with her sixth single ‘New Rules’ (it reached #2 in Australia) just as she released her self-titled debut album.

It’s not surprising that the musician/model, born in London to Albanian parents, would have the lead.

She was the most streamed woman in the UK on Spotify last year, and drew one of the biggest crowds at the Glastonbury festival in June.

Ed Sheeran is up for four BRIT wins and J Hus and Rag’N’Bone Man each have three nods.

Stormzy, Loyle Carner, Little Mix and Clean Bandit had two apiece.

Up for Best British Group are Gorillaz, London Grammar, Royal Blood, Wolf Alice and The xx.

Steve Mac has already been announced as winner of the Best British Producer award.

The nominations list would have pleased Liam Gallagher: he got in but not brother Noel’s High Flying Birds.

Also missing out after a successful 2017 were Take That, Sam Smith, Kasabian and Rita Ora.

The awards are held at O2 Arena in London on February 21.

Among those performing are Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Foo Fighters and Sam Smith.
