Sydney’s music industry professionals usually get their ‘kicks’ from discovering new talent, releasing music, running festivals, promoting, publicising or going on tour.

But for one priceless networking day of the year, a number of highly respected music companies will turn on their ‘out of office’ and head to Marrickville for a day of football and fundraising – MUSICA COPA!

In its fifth year, the beloved charity 5-a-side football tournament is proudly back on Friday 1st December, at the pristine pitches of the KIKOFF Soccer Centre, Marrickville.

On top of 21 legendary music crews, an all-star line-up of artists will drop their mics to pull on the spikes and play football - celebrity players in previous years have included members of Flight Facilities, The Rubens, DMAs, Motez, Montaigne, What So Not, Nina Las Vegas and many more.

This year, teams from Audiopaxx, BMG, Cattleyard, Falcona, FBi Radio, Future Classic, I OH YOU, Inertia, inthemix, MTV Australia, Mushroom Group, Of Leisure, Select Music, Sony, Spotify, Sweat It Out x MAKER Agency, UNDR Ctrl, Universal Music and WME will all be trying to beat last year’s winners Lucky Ent.

Spectators are welcome and will have the opportunity to share a Heineken with their favourite musos and industry, people in the Player’s Lounge, as well as carb-load with gourmet burgers from the maestros at Mary’s. A selection of DJs will also be keeping vibes high through to day’s end.

The stakes are high and each team will be playing to win money for their nominated charity. Since the event was established in 2013, Musica Copa has raised an incredible $40,000 for charity - with last year’s champions raising $7,000 for the Reach Foundation and runners-up Universal Music winning $3,000 for Musicians Making A Difference.

Footy friends and business partners Paul Stix (UNDR Ctrl) and Martin Novosel (Boundary Sounds / Purple Sneakers) are the masterminds behind the passion project Musica Copa, and 2017 is already gearing up to be their most exciting tournament yet.

“For many people in the music industry (including myself), Musica Copa has become one of the favourite events on the annual calendar," Stix said.

"It’s a nice milestone to get to 5 years, and Martin and I are really excited to welcome new teams Spotify, Nike All-Stars, Of Leisure and Inertia Music to the tournament."

The competition is shaking things up a little this year, with the introduction of two division and an improved open mixed team format (adopted by many Football NSW Futsal competitions) - so ladies, get ready to pull those boots on!

The official draw and more important event information will be released in the coming weeks.
