Just a month from co-hosting the Music Cities Convention in Melbourne and announcing the recipients of the skills and business development Live Music Professionals 2018 programs for venue owners and bookers, Music Victoria is on a membership drive to continue its work.
The May 19-29 initiative was launched this morning under the tagline ‘Live and Breathe’ – as in the fact that the people and associations it is a voice for all who live and breathe music.
To get the message across, Music Victoria enlisted the Amateur Hour team to produce a tongue-in-cheek video to spruik membership benefits such as grant applications, industry coaching services, mentorship, workshops, master classes and discounts.
Written by Music Victoria staffer and singer-songwriter Laura Imbruglia, who also appears in the clip, the video features Ecca Vandal, Sophie Koh, Benny Walker, Stella Angelico, Jake Mason (Cookin’ On Three Burners), Slattz (King Parrot), Lauren Hammel (High Tension/TFS), Pablo Alvarado (Mesa Cosa), Broads, Andrew Swann, Ben Franz (The Waifs/Brooke Russell), plus Music Victoria staff Patrick Donovan, Al Parkinson, Nick Cooper and Sarah De Borre.

Music Victoria members get access to exclusive workshops and professional development series (like Live Music Professionals) plus discounts on gear, merchandise, advertising, studio hire, consulting, travel, workshops, plus cheap food and drink at local venues.
With a current focus on mental health within the music industry, Music Victoria initiated new membership benefits with The School of Life, Melbourne Meditation Centre, The Mind Room and Genesis Fitness, who are all offering discoun ts on their services to Music Victoria members.
In 2017, over 1,500 members helped Music Victoria to reach feats including publishing the Victorian Live Music 10 Point Plan, and issuing $240,100 in grants to 24 venues as part of the Good Music Neighbours and Acoustic Assessment programs.
In addition, 30 professional development workshops and events drew 1,200 attendees, while 46 managers, agents, artists and media were taken through regional Victoria on Victorian Music Crawl to meet musicians, promoters and venue operators in these areas.
Music Victoria has increased the profile of the state and capital city by partnering with the government to bring the Music Cities Convention to the Southern Hemisphere for the first time, and assisting Visit Victoria to make live music a brand pillar.
