The free app features videos of 22 Melbourne music landmarks including venues, recording studios, and the sites where AC/DC recorded their early albums. It also boasts a comprehensive list of venues, festivals and resources, as well as a gig guide and a Live Music Best Practice Guide for venues.

Music Victoria has partnered with online events calendar Eventfinder to deliver the gig guide on the app. Bands and bookers can save time by uploading their gigs on the Eventfinder site, which will automatically upload to the Melbourne Music City gig guide, as well as to the Channel V and Triple J gig guides.

The app, conceived by Music Victoria and supported by the City of Melbourne, follows the success of the first three editions of the physical Melbourne Music City guide.

Minister for the Arts, Heidi Victoria, said the Victorian Coalition Government was a proud supporter of the app, which will play an important role in promoting Victoria’s diverse live music scene. “Live music sits at the heart of Victoria’s thriving arts scene and Melbourne is its lifeblood. Whether you want your music to reach new audiences, or you’re searching for ‘the next big thing’, Melbourne Music City is a ground-breaking resource that will connect you to the music you love like never before,” Victoria says.

Music Victoria CEO Patrick Donovan encourages music fans to download the free app to help navigate their way around. “By using the app, you’ll never have to miss a gig or festival again. And the 22 videos are a great addition to explain the significance of some of our most important landmarks. The app technology allows us to update it with new venues and events, so please contact us if you’ve added something to the amazing cultural fabric of Melbourne Music City,” he says.
