New Australian dance label Teamwrk has entered into a global digital and physical distribution partnership with Universal Music Australia.

However, the major will also provide promotions and marketing services for selected acts.

Teamwrk is part of Lucky Entertainment, the Melbourne-based global artist management company. It’s also a booking agency with international touring, festivals (Ultra Music, Esoteric) public relations, media (digital and brand), venues (Billboard in Melbourne) and events (Light @ Crown, Cheers Tuesdays).

Founded by Luke Udorovic, it quickly became a global name as it spearheaded Melbourne’s bounce, and also guiding the careers of Will Sparks, Tigerlily, Mashd N Kutcher, Joel Fletcher, Tyron Hapi (pictured) and Brynny Lucky already has another label, Bourne Recordings, a collaboration with Will Sparks and Ministry of Sound Australia.

“Teamwrk focuses more on pop and commercial dance tracks, even live, and these wouldn’t fit into Bourne,” Teamwrks’ head of A&R Jae Butt tells TMN.

The Universal Music partnership has already proved fruitful.

Tyron Hapi’s ‘Anyway’ (ft Mimoza) had within its first ten days generated 5.7 million streams on Spotify.

But Universal has used its clout abroad to get the track on radio, with the estimate that ‘Anyway’ could end up with 10 million, possibly 20 million, streams.

According to a statement, “With the aim of fostering talent and creating a space for artists to showcase their music, Teamwrk will discover the next generation of dance and pop superstars.

“Releases will include tracks from Tyron Hapi, Will Sparks, Matt Watkins to name a few – this emerging label is one to watch.”

Butt explains that Teamwrk doesn’t sign artists but tracks. He estimates he gets 200 tracks sent to him a week for consideration, aside from what he finds on SoundCloud.

“At the moment, we’ve got about 20 tracks set to go; the plan is to issue one a week.”

Butt has high confidence in the Australian EDM scene. “There’s more touring here than ever before,” he points out, “Sometimes or two or three go through a week.

“Australians are very adaptive, and they go from one scene to another, and people think (that) scene is dead. In reality, it’s not, and the whole scene is strong, and well respected globally.”

Lucky Entertainment is on November 16 is making a major announcement on Esoteric (March 9—12). It is touring Mann in December.
