EMI Music Australia has signed Sydney DJ, songwriter and vocalist KLP (Kristy Lee Peters). This year she increased her profile, taking over as host of triple j’s House Party and playing festivals such as Splendour in The Grass and SXSW. She showcases at Big Sound this week, and heads off to America to play at CMJ in New York and Culture Collide in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Jesse Flavell from Sum Management explains why the deal with EMI fits well with KLP. ’It was clear from early discussions that EMI understood the music and were as excited as we are about where we could take this. Those who only know KLP as a DJ will be blown away by the depth of her talent.”

Meanwhile, Mushroom Music Publishing has signed a deal with Melbourne indie-folk act The Pierce Brothers. The deal was struck after the band returned from playing to 10,000 at Netherlands Lowlands Festival.

Today (September 11), they kick off a 24-date Australian tour which runs until December 6 and takes in a number of festivals.

Mushroom Music’s Michael Gudinski said in a statement, "Mushroom Music (is) thrilled to be working with Jack and Pat from Pierce Brothers.  We look forward to supporting the guys in a long and successful career both in a live setting and as emerging songwriters.”
