PRESS RELEASE:

Since it’s inception nearly four decades ago, Newtown Festival has encapsulated the spirit of Sydney’s most creative and vibrant community. This year, local hero’s Mary’s and Young Henry’s will be elevating the event to new heights by commandeering all of the festivals bars, bringing consumers homegrown and local wine, spirits, boutique beer and cider.

Mary’s owners Jake Smyth and Kenny Graham along with Young Henry’s Oscar McMahon and Richard Adamson are passionate about showcasing local talent so have made outreach to neighbourhood breweries and winemakers who will be treating consumers to an eclectic array of beverages. “We want to give visitors the opportunity to see the best of Newtown through the eyes of the locals. Let’s celebrate our neighbourhood product and give it a wider audience outside the 2042 postcode” says Kenny Graham. “It’s an incredibly exciting opportunity to be able to bring our own version of Newtownism to the long standing, iconic Newtown Festival” agrees Oscar McMahon.

Local talent include wine writer Mike Bennie and his charity wine ‘For the Dandy in the Clos’, Rootstock, Willy the Boatman and Batch Brewery along with local winemaker Sparrow and Vine. Consumers will also see familiar faces pouring their drinks, with local bartenders from surrounding bars and cafes getting on board.

Festival Director Sue Anderson says "Newtown Festival is passionate about engaging with the local residents, businesses and creatives who make our neighbourhood, our ‘Newtopia’, so unique.  Marys and Young Henrys are two of Newtown’s most iconic and much-loved venues, and we’re very excited to be partnering with them for this year’s Newtown Festival."

With it’s bars curated by Mary’s and Young Henry’s, the 37th annual Newtown Festival is guaranteed to make locals proud, visitors jealous and give all a reason to roll out of bed on a Sunday morning.
