Jessica Mauboy and Dan Sultan were the big winners at Friday night’s NIMA Awards.

Mauboy received the NIMA for National Artist of the Year for the second time in a row, while National Album, Song and Cover Art of the Year were all accolades taken out by Sultan.

The NIMA National New Talent Award went to Briggs, whose new album Sheplife is released on August 22.

North East Arnhem Land band East Journey won National Film Clip of the Year and filmmakers Naina Sen and Susan Sandery were presented with the award.

The National Community Clip of the Year went to Fly Back Home by artists Desert Sevenz, who are from the remote NT community of Ampilatwatja. The award acknowledges the positive role music and new media throughout Indigenous communities.

Two acts took out the NT Traditional Music Award of the Year; they were Lindsay Gameraidj for his song Nangale Nuk, and Jaydron  Nundhirribala, Roland Nundhirribala and Grant Nundhirribala. The former were acknowledged for their maintenance of traditional performance, while the latter received recognition for his strong message about consuming local/traditional foods.

NT School Band of the Year went to Rockstar Band, a nine-piece outfit from Gapuwiyak. Apart from becoming festival favourites at remote community Gapuwiyak and Garma Festivals, the crew also took out second place at the Northern Territory Music School songwriting competition in 2013.
