2GB axes Michael Smith over Islam comments

Michael Smith has been dropped from 2GB over comments made this week on the Ben Fordham drive show.

The comments were made during a discussion on the Festival of Dangerous Ideas and the controversy surrounding the proposed presentation titled "Honour Killings are Justified".

During the conversation Smith referred to the prophet Mohammed as a paedophile.

The call is for Triple M’s One Percenters to apologise to Colombians for what they say was ‘a racist rampage’. The Change.org petition relates to on air content from June 18 and reads: “Australian radio commentators have bullied Colombia and its entire people airing massive racist comments during one of their live transmissions."

2UE axes presenters, reshuffles lineup

2UE afternoon presenters Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson and Sarah Morice have been shafted in a reshuffle at the station.

Angela Catterns is moving from mornings to take the arvos gig, while Weekend Breakfast and Your Business Day presenter Stuart Bocking will move to mornings.

General Manager Chris Parker said the changes come after extensive audience research and feedback.

“We are committed to putting our audience at the heart of everything we do and 2UE is a station that reflects what our audience wants, which is informative, engaging and entertaining radio. And we believe our listeners will respond positively to these changes,” he said.

The changes are effective from July 14.

Hip hop artist 360 gets pumped over Fox airplay

Rapper 360 has posted a video to his Facebook page showing the moment he heard his song Price of Fame on the radio for the first time.

FoxFM Content Director Dave Cameron said the video highlights the importance that artists place on radio as a platform for their music.

"It’s a great nod to the industry," he said.

Mix Melbourne Programmer has a baby

RCS’s Chris Bean leaves for New York

Long-serving and popular Support Manager of RCS Australia, Chris Bean is leaving the software and services company and headed to RCS in New York.

Chris has been promoted to the position of Vice President IT, at the global headquarters of the world’s largest broadcast software company and leaves the Australian office today.

Chris Bean said: “I have enjoyed working with just about every radio station in Australia over the years, traveled widely and worked with some highly professional people across the Asia Pacific region. I’m passionate about Radio and Software and look forward to continuing this interest at RCS Headquarters in NY.
