ORiGiN Recordings, the Sydney-based mid-1990s label that had hits with Diana Anaid’s I Go Off and Adelaide band Lazaros Dog’s Home Entertainment System, is being reactivated.

It has two projects on the slate.

The first is the original cast recording of the musical Connected, which tackles cyber-bullying. Written by Australian writer Craig Christie, it based around the interaction between a new arrival at school and a social misfit who hides himself in his bedroom with his computer.

The second is the Original Soundtrack of award-winning Melbourne-based composer Cezary Skubiszewski for the documentary feature Monsieur Mayonnaise.

Skubiszewski produced the score in Melbourne with a wide range of musicians including Melbourne-based, Belgian-born singer Deborah “Moogy’ Morgan and pianist Luke Howard.

Monsieur Mayonnaise was screened on ARTE TV channel in Germany and France after premiering at the Berlin Film Festival, and will be broadcasting elsewhere around the world. It has also screened in Australian arthouse cinemas.

“With ORiGiN Music once again a stand alone independent we’re excited to also be reactivating our boutique label,” says creative director Philip Mortlock.

“There’s more on the way and we’re taking advantage of the broader global digital market with our artists’ and composers’ works.”

ORiGiN Recordings was set up in the 1990s alongside ORiGiN Music Publishing as an outlet for its publishing clients.

Its eclectic releases included those by the Australian Art Orchestra, comedian Bob Downe, Americana group Eva Trout, the Paul Grabowsky Trio, Shelley Scown, Scott Tinkler, Kerrie Biddell and composer Peter Dasent.

It had three ARIA wins, including the groundbreaking Serious Tam album from Papua New Guinea artist George Telek.
