pandora acquires next big sound

Internet radio service Pandora announced plans to acquire music analytics service Next Big Sound.

This news follows Apple’s purchase of Semetric and its analytics service, both of which are used by music streaming giant Spotify.

The purchase will strengthen Pandora’s artist analytics tool with Next Big Sound stating in a blog post on their website: “There is no better way to further our mission than to become part of the leading music service, Pandora, whose belief in the infinite power of music aligns completely with our own […] We’re incredibly excited to tap into the data, resources, and expertise of Pandora”.

Jane Huxley, Managing Director, Australia and New Zealand told TMN that while Next Big Sound do not have an operation here the move is very much in line with Pandora's desire to become an indispensable partner to music creators. "Its an extension of the work we have been doing with the Artist Marketing Platform and Artist Audio Messaging. Our view is that it’s these types of insights and tools that will help artists to grow their careers," said Huxley.

"We are looking forward to all of the innovation that comes as a result of this deal, and of course with a single product set servicing the world for Pandora, any additional functionality will of course be available here simultaneously."

Pandora CEO Brian McAndrews stated: “The combination of Pandora’s listening data and Next Big Sound’s analytical capabilities will create a vital source of data,” continuing to say that “Next Big Sound shares our passion for music and respect for those who make it. I’m incredibly excited to unleash the combined potential of our two companies and have the Next Big Sound team join us.”
