Police investigating X Factor stage invasion

UK police are investigating an incident in the taping of The X Factor when “pranksters” invaded the stage last Saturday night during live quarterfinals.

It happened just after controversial rapper contestant Honey G finished her first performance of the night, a rendition of MC Hammer’s U Can’t Touch This, and getting feedback from the judges.

The five men were reportedly from a YouTube group Trollstation who pride themselves on “playing mind games on the public.”

Four men ran onto the stage. One grabbed her by the shoulders and tried to take her microphone. The others made a grab for her trademark hat and glasses. The singer kept her composure throughout, although the panel looked horrified.

Simon Cowell apologised to Honey G: "I thought that was part of the act for a moment.” He encouraged her not to be freaked out, and to return to sing her second song. “Don’t let that bother you. Come back believing you are a star." 

Sharon Osbourne quipped, “See, you drive people wild with excitement! That’s what you create, people go crazy for you."

The five had previously been sitting in the studio audience. The X Factor crew called the police and the men were evicted.

But some audience members hit social media claiming that the invasion had been a publicity stunt by the show, and that a production crew member had been seen pushing one of the men towards the stage. 

On their YouTube channel, Trollstation claim that they specialise in "bizarre and often surreal pranks performed on unwitting members of the public. Our content is intentionally provocative and controversial with the aim to get reactions from the general public in the name of comedic satire.”

They’ve run through art galleries with their heads in stockings, and run on to the field during soccer matches trying to take photos of the players.

However, their antics got five of them jailed this year – four for fake robberies and kidnappings, and the fifth for a bomb hoax.

Their YouTube channel has over 700,000 subscribers and two million views. 

It wasn’t good news for Honey G: she was eliminated the next night.
