More good news for the Australian music industry: this morning, rights organisation PCCA announced they distributed $33.6 million to artists and record labels for the 2012-2013 financial year, an increase of almost 16% on the previous year’s $29m distribution.

PPCA CEO Dan Rosen said, “The team at PPCA does wonderful work each year in representing our registered artists and record labels and ensuring they are compensated when their creative work is used in businesses across the country. This means our artists and labels can continue to produce great music and businesses can continue to thrive by playing this music for their customers.

“Whilst we are delighted to be able to provide increased distributions to artists and labels, PPCA is conscious that there are still a number of areas where creators, and those who invest in them, are not yet adequately compensated for their creative efforts and investment. PPCA will continue to work hard to achieve fair returns for our stakeholder’s creative content.”

APRA | AMCOS released figures in October that reveal they paid songwriters, composers and music publishers a total of $177.4m last year.
