PRESS RELEASE:
APRA AMCOS is proud to announce six-time Grammy winner Steve Lillywhite will be in Australia next month to take part in the global song writing initiative, SongHubs.
Considered to be one of the most successful producers in British pop music with 500 record credits, Steve Lillywhite has worked with artists such as Peter Gabriel, Morrissey, Talking Heads, and U2. His first commercial success was at age 22.
Steve will be one of four international guests APRA AMCOS has confirmed. Additional international guests confirmed to attend include; Cruickshank, Audra Mae and Nash Overstreet. They will work in a series of productions sessions from 03 June 2015 with Australian and New Zealand song writers and artists including; Megan Washington, Reece Mastin, Thomston, JP Fung, Mitch Kenny, THIEF, Michael Paynter and Michael Delorenzis (M Squared).
In a recent interview with APRAP Lillywhite says, “A collaboration is only successful if the best possible mix of talent shine though. I can’t stand blind faith. Faith is a ‘purposeful suspension of critical thinking.’ I want the artists I work with to be critically thinking, I want them to be interesting.” He continues, “I learn from them as much as they learn from me. They have to be proud of the art they have created, proud of themselves, creating something for everybody. The artistic vision will bear itself out in a commercial reality. Good art is always worth something. All artists are unique, they all have a viewpoint. My job is always to be a good captain of the ship, keep their art – the boat – on a steady path.”
